Project South Africa

Zimmermann-Graeff & Müller winery has imported wines from South Africa since 1999. The wines originate mainly from the region Breede River Valley. What originally started as a small business has now increased to a remarkable volume, so that currently (Status: End of 2013) more than 15 % of the entire bulk wine imports from South Africa to Germany now go to ZGM winery.
Arising from this long and very good business relationship an idea was born in 2013 to support a school in the Moddergote Area. The HM Beets Primary School is attended by children who live with their families in the neighbourhood and on surrounding winegrowing farms. The students are between 6 and 11 years old. Mr Metzen (former wine buyer at ZGM) also visited this school many times during his visits to Africa and developed the idea to support the school and the individual students if necessary. He contacted the teaching staff of the school and discussed the various options of supporting the school; these are:

  • Clothing and shoes for children (especially in wintertime)
  • Learning materials (e.g. Computers, books,...)
  • Support in sports activities
  • Computer courses for older children

The aid project „BREEDE RIVER VALLEY SCHOOL PROJECT“ was founded.
